The Algarve has been constantly expanding over recent years, with new resorts, villa developments and hotels opening. At the end of last year The Conrad Algarve opened it’s doors and now there are two more developments planned for the coming years.
The first is the Quinta da Ombria Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort which is planned for the rural area of Querenca, which is around 30 minutes drive from the popular coastal areas like Quinta Do Lago and around 15 minutes drive to Loule. Faro airport is also less than 30 minutes away. The project is currently only in the development stage, but early plans suggest that the resort will feature a luxury hotel and spa, an 18-hole golf course and 400 holiday apartments and villas. The project aims to preserve and make the best of all that this rural area has to offer and also preserve the area’s heritage. As well as the tourism aspect, there are plans to restore the water management system and introduce an area for organic farming.
The resort will appeal to those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and get back to nature. The Algarve Way is a footpath that runs from Alcoutim and Cape St Vincent- this walkway will pass just a few kilometres from Quinta da Ombria- offering a lovely route for exploring the area on foot and discover the natural wonders such as rare flora and protected wildlife often found in this region. The estate has three rivers running across it and is close to areas such as Fonte de Benemola and Rocha Pena, which are of environmental interest, so preservation is a key concern of the project. Already, this new resort is looking like it may be something a little different.
As it is still in the development stages, there are only a few details about the project so at the moment it’s a case of watch this space!
